Maybe you’ve see the story, or perhaps not. Either way it’s a worthy reminder of how grateful we are for honorable men.
From The Daily Saint,
Chief Master Sergeant John Gebhardt
Iraqi insurgents executed the entire family of this little girl. They tried to kill her, too, shooting her in the head but leaving her alive, albeit with grave head injuries. She was being cared for at Chief Master Sergeant John Gebhardt’s hospital in Iraq, and she was recovering, though she continued to cry and moan for weeks. Nurses at the hospital said Chief Gebhardt was the only one who could calm her down, so Gebhardt spent several nights holding her while they both slept in that chair.
“I got as much enjoyment out of it as the baby did,” Gebhardt of Kansas said later. “I reflected on my own family and life and thought about how lucky I’ve been.”
“I can’t tell the difference between their kids and our kids,” he continued. “The Iraqi parents have the same care and compassion for their children as any American.”
