
A Texas lawmaker is calling for a special session to address marriage licensing in the state.
Rep. David Simpson, R-Longview, requested Monday that Gov. Greg Abbott call a special session of the 84th Legislature following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states.
Simpson said the court had “cheapened” the institution of marriage and called the ruling an aberration. In a statement on SCOTUS ruling and his request for a special session, Simpson said:
